MasterCard VisaVisa, Mastercard, Diners Club, JCB and American Express are the major credit cards widely accepted in the Philippines. In Cagayan de Oro, Visa and Mastercard are commonly accepted than any other credit cards. Small shops do not accept credit cards. It is illegal for establishments to place additional fees/surcharge to your credit card purchases. Report this to your credit card company and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Take good care of your credit card. Credit card theft is becoming rampant all over the world. If someone calls you to update your credit card information, hang up and call immediately your credit card company to verify such update. Do not divulge important information such as passwords, Social Security number and other personal information (birthdate, middle name, etc.) to anyone. Do not let your credit card out of your sight. Check the amount indicated in your credit card receipt and the cash register. Always keep your credit card receipts for billing reference.

Some establishments require cardholders to present some identification. Always bring with you any identification card (or passport) with your full name and signature.
