MOGCHSMOGCHS Administration Building

The Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) Administration Building was inaugurated on December 15, 1909. It was part of the 1907 Gabaldon initiative to establish and build public schools all over the Philippine islands under the American regime.

Located at the edge of Macabalan port, the monument commemorates two historic events. 

During the Philippine-American War (Philippine Insurgency), Kagayanons fortified the wharf against the invading Americans from January to March 1900. It was finally occupied by the Americans on April 25, 1900. 

On March 13, 1942, General Douglas MacArthur and his family arrived in Macabalan wharf from Corregidor Island in a PT boat. He and his family then proceeded to the Del Monte Airfield (Bukidnon Province) where they left for Australia on March 17, 1942. It was in Australia where the World War II hero made his famous declaration, “I shall return”.

The area is enclosed and is open to the public from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm except for holidays.

Museo de Oro, Xavier UniversityMuseo de Oro

Located within the Xavier UniversityExternal site(formerly AteneoExternal sitede Cagayan) Campus, it has a collection of pre-historic artifacts and bones dug from a Huluga cave a few kilometers away from the city center. 

It is also a folkloric museum which feature Tribal and Muslim traditions and customs. There are also old photos of Cagayan de Oro and the Philippine-American war. For tour schedules, call Tel. No. (88) 857-4472; 857-4475 local 2401 or 2403.

 

Museum of Three CulturesMuseum of Three Cultures

Opened in May 2008, the museum is located within the Capitol University campus, Academic Building III. It has 3 galleries showcasing the history of Cagayan de Oro, Maranao Muslim crafts and art works done by local artists. For inquiries, contact (8822) 71-1980 local 290.

La Castilla MuseumLa Castilla Museum

Originally the vacation house of Rodolfo Neri-Pelaez and Elsa Pelaez, founders of Liceo de Cagayan UniversityExternal site, it became their permanent residence in 1976. By 1997 it was converted into a museum. The museum showcases the Pelaez family heirlooms and memorabilia. Antique chinese jars and wares from various Chinese dynasties are on display. For reservations or group tours call Tel.
